Environmental Issues/ Human Impact Project
Share

Description

Research project that has students working cooperatively to research an environmental issue. Includes project guidelines, rubric for grading, suggested websites and a note-taking sheet with key questions for students. Students have the flexibility of presentation style. To make grading fair, I make the individual's work count for a large part of the grade and keep the group grade smaller.

Suitable for lower levels or can be modified for honors students by increasing detail of fact sheet requirements or making them write a paper. Allows for student creativity in presentation medium. Allows for a jigsaw-type teaching and makes issues more memorable for students.

You can even run a contest and have the class vote for the most pressing issue after the presentations (of course they cannot vote for themselves). Very popular among the students.

Options for topics include:

  • Climate change
  • Ozone depletion
  • Air pollution
  • Water pollution
  • Endangered species
  • Energy Crisis
  • Land Pollution

These pages were easy to snip and put right into Schoology for the kids to read and follow directions on how to complete their project.
