Digital Math LESSONS... Equivalent Fractions (Google Slides/PowerPoint)

Imagine your students being able to use multiplication and division to create equivalent fractions. All you need is a PROJECTOR OR...

  • Google Classroom
  • 1:1 Classroom
  • Flipped Classroom
  • Nearpod
  • Blended Learning Classroom
  • Canvas LMS

These lessons will effectively guide your students to use a visual model to interpret and understand equivalent fractions using multiplication and division. It is designed to enhance conceptual development, critical thinking, and problem solving skills through digital media.

Digital Lessons are broken into 3 lessons (Chalkboard Theme):

Essential Understanding: I CAN explain why two fractions are equivalent even though the numerators and denominators are different.

  1. Lesson One: Using Multiplication and Models to find Equivalent Fractions. -YouTube Video: Custom Glass Board Screen (click on this link to preview) -22 instructional slides that include guided practice and independent practice. -Kahoot!! Game - Equivalent Fractions (Multiplication)
  2. Lesson Two: Using Division and Models to find Equivalent Fractions -YouTube Video: Custom Glass Board Screen (click on this link to preview) -20 instructional slides that include guided practice and independent practice with answer keys -Kahoot!! Game - Equivalent Fractions (Division)
  3. Lesson Three: Using Division to find Equivalent Fractions in Simplest Form -YouTube Video: Custom Glass Board Screen (click on link to preview) -7 instructional slides that include guided practice and independent practice with answer keys -Kahoot!! Game - Equivalent Fraction (Simplest Form)

Math Task Cards aligned to the Common Core Math: (Standard: 4.NF.1) - I Can Statement: I can explain why two fractions are equivalent even though the numerator and denominator is different. It contains 52 math questions in ALL!! (Multiple Choice, Multiple Select, Unknown Answer, Short Answer, Fill in the blank).

  1. Students will be able develop an understanding of how to use area models, fraction bars and number lines to reason about fractional equivalence. Therefore students will be able to use the Task Cards provide logical justification using multiple visual fraction models in order to explain fractional equivalence.
  2. Students will be able to use the Task Cards to demonstrate an understanding of how using multiplication relates to the use of division when creating equivalent fractions. Additionally, they will develop a logical explanation of how partitioning is involved.

When Can I use Task Cards? They can be used to introduce, reinforce, remediation, or enrich math skills!

  • Modeling Conceptual Understanding
  • Whole Group Lessons
  • Exit Tickets
  • Math Centers
  • Scoot
  • Early Finishers

Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
