Description

Dr. Sigma's Life Lessons are short math warmups that involve everyday tasks that students will need to understand as they grow up and become responsible citizens. Life Lessons - Exchange Rates contains 16 warmup sheets for students that involve calculating product and service costs in a variety of currencies. The warmups increase in difficulty. There are four warmups for each of the following levels of difficulty which build upon the difficulty of the previous levels:

- Level 1, Calculation of the prices of items selected from actual online stores from four different countries and converting the prices to US $

- Level 2, Calculation of the prices of menu items selected from actual restaurants located in four different countries and converting the prices to US $

- Level 3, Calculation of the prices of vacations selected from actual vacation destinations located in four different countries and converting the prices to US $

- Level 4, Calculation of the prices of transportation between two countries, as well as hotel prices in four different countries, and converting the prices to US $ and local currencies

These warmups can be used for students in late elementary, middle school, high school and adult learning programs. They can be used individually as warm-ups throughout the year or as part of a personal finance unit. Lessons can be differentiated by student skill level and taught in a single lesson if desired.

My students worked in groups to solve these. They loved it -- very lively discussion over the different scenarios

Thank you so much for your feedback! This has not been a very popular product. I remember that we used to teach exchange rates in Applied Math but everything has moved away from that. Glad that you found it useful!

Thank you! Glad to know it worked for you. The "Life Lessons" seem to be my most popular items. I think it is because a lot of this material has been taken out of classes due to a purely common core focus. If you have any suggestions for new ones, please let me know. Thanks, DrSigma

Thank you so much for your feedback! I used to teach Exchange Rates a lot but I think with everything on everyone's plates these days, it seems to get forgotten. Let me know how it goes in your classes. Thanks, DrSigma
