Description

Initiative Drawing Pages: 3 sheets

Initiative is an executive function and is defined as the ability to begin a task or activity and to independently generate ideas, responses, or problem-solving strategies. Students with weaknesses in this area are easily identified because they often take an unusually long time to begin activities. When asked why they haven't started a task, they often say they don't have any ideas or can't think of anything.

The purpose of these pages is to challenge students to generate ideas quickly. Students are given a base image and must use that image to create their own picture. After drawing their picture, they must give their creation a descriptive title.

I recommend giving students a time limit to complete each drawing/title in order to challenge their quick thinking skills. Allowing two minutes or so for each of the nine boxes = 20 minute initiative boosting activity.

Foster Love is a store that seeks to provide simple activities that challenge the more basic but necessary skills needed for overall academic success. Please continue to visit my store as I create items to exercise visual discrimination, processing, the executive functions, motor skills, and much more!

I've only had this for about two weeks but I've used it almost every day with my students! We've used it as an activity at the beginning of meetings to get focused and ready to work, and also during groups as a brain break. I loved sharing our creations with each other too.
