Description
Looking for a way to engage your Algebra students? Look no further than these real-world exponential function performance tasks. This series of three tasks can be used separately or in combination to bring algebra to life for your students!
These common core aligned performance tasks are designed to expose students to actual real world modeling scenarios in which a particular mathematics topic is used.
With a focus on the spread of disease, you and your students work through to discover the mathematics behind how diseases spread throughout a population!
Down with the Sickness Exponential Function Performance Task engages your students in studying the viral load of an individual after different amounts of exposure to a pathogen!
Additionally, students are given the opportunity to engage in evaluating exponential functions, and understanding the components that make up that function rule!
The Spread of Disease Exponential Function Performance Task engages your students in studying different ways viral diseases spread through a population and problem solve how long it would take the whole school to become infected!
Students get a chance to not only use mathematics to model a fictional scenario of spreading a disease but get to simulate the spread of disease and get practice gathering and analyzing data!
Slowing the Spread Exponential Function Performance Task engages your students in studying different ways we can prevent viral diseases from spreading through a population and problem solve how long it would take the whole school to become infected!
Students get a chance to not only use mathematics to model a fictional scenario of spreading a disease but get to simulate the spread and slow of the spread of disease and get practice gathering and analyzing data!
In all three performance tasks, students practice modeling with exponential functions through creating:
- Exponential Function Tables
- Exponential Function Graphs
- Exponential Function Rules
