After our first year adopting the Go Math series, I found myself supplementing the book with materials for my students to help support all learners. I teach a wide range of students that includes a class of all gifted/accelerated students that could use some extra challenge to having a co-taught class that could use more supports. Therefore, I created these companion guides for each chapter (but could be used not only for Go Math but the topic in general in any 7th grade class) as a one-stop toolkit to help me differentiate my lessons. While I do not always use all parts with all classes, this provides me with resources from a wide range of places and with a wide reach that culls resources to meet the various needs of all my students.

Included in each module packet is:

  • A place to track growth throughout the chapter (I use the Assessment Readiness page in the book from each chapter as my pre-test)
  • A place to breakdown vocabulary that models best practices from Marzano (examples, non-examples, pictures, memory tricks--this is often teachers' favorite part of the packet)
  • Goal Setting
  • Targets (includes multiple places for students to reflect on their learning)
  • Assignments--A list of the assignments I give my students for the chapter
  • Warm-ups--interesting hooks, book companion guides, challenge questions (I sometimes use for students that finish early as an additional challenge)
  • Memory Tricks/Songs for their coordinating lessons
  • Checkpoint quizzes for each lesson--Research shows that students need tested soon after to help learning go into long-term storage
  • Reflections on targets and attributes of good mathematicians/classmates
  • Student Self-Evaluation

I will be uploading this as a word document so that you can tweak it for your own purposes. I hope you find this helpful, thanks for looking!

**Please note that the answer key will not always look identical to the student packet. I am constantly updating formatting and fixing/improving items on the student packet so there may be some small differences between the two.

Solve word problems leading to equations of the form 𝘱𝘹 + 𝘲 = 𝘳 and 𝘱(𝘹 + 𝘲) = 𝘳, where 𝘱, 𝘲, and 𝘳 are specific rational numbers. Solve equations of these forms fluently. Compare an algebraic solution to an arithmetic solution, identifying the sequence of the operations used in each approach. For example, the perimeter of a rectangle is 54 cm. Its length is 6 cm. What is its width?
Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.
