Description

These notes go along with factoring trinomials unit. They start off with examples showcasing that Factoring is simply reverse multiplication. Then the notes move into factoring trinomials, using the "X" game method (a*c method). This method has students multiply the first and last coefficients to find the "magic number" and then list the factors for that number to find the factors that add up to the middle number with the second term in the polynomial.

There is also an extended section discussing multi-step factoring (taking out a GCF or a negative first, then regular trinomial factoring) as well as 20 homework problems covering all of the above and a quick 3 question exit ticket to use as a formative assessment at the end of the lesson (or beginning of the next lesson)! This lesson does not treat trinomials with a=1 differently, as those problems are mixed in with a>1 problems. There is also an "x" game page, where the sole focus is to have students find the two numbers that multiply to the top number and add to the bottom number. The problems on this page use the number that students will need to find for later factoring problems, so if you choose to use this page, it will help students find the factors faster for the following problems since they have already done it!

This was a great quick review for factoring! Not the most interactive, but that was expected. You could easily turn this into a more interactive worksheet.
