Description

*As group work is not encouraged at this point in time, please consider students completing this assignment independently by using Canva (Ontario School Board Supported). Instructions and exemplars will be added to assist those teacher who wish to take this route.

In this, "Feed Me," assignment, students as a group explore the unhealthiness of the fast foods they love to indulge in. Meeting the expectations for grade 6, 7 and 8 Ontario Health Curriculum, students select one fast food item of interest.

They explore:

_____The menu item

_____Create a drawing of their food item

_____The nutritional facts (include serving size—don’t forget to do that math)

_____The healthiness of the food item (or what doesn't make it healthy!)

_____A healthy alternative

This is an inquiry project and students have the ability of conducting research and it is open ended. Students use the success criteria as their guide. Student sample work has been included!

When assessing, please use the success criteria checklist - moving away from rubrics; and allocating students a mark out of /2 for each items of the checklist (or a range you seem fit).

Time: Students had three weeks to complete this assignment in groups - one period each week for a total of 120 minutes allocated in class.

The idea of the activity was great. I would have given 5 stars if it included more details on what was expected from the students rather than just giving an example poster.

I think this is a great idea. I appreciate that it has examples as well. However, I wish it had a more detailed description of the assignment and requirements for the students to use. It includes success criteria, but no real outline of what is expected.
