Description
Math Game: Naming and renaming single digits
Name: Fast Track Math Speedway
ACARA Syllabus:
Connect number names, numerals and quantities, including zero, initially up to 10 and then beyond
(ACMNA002) Foundation
Recognise, model, read, write and order numbers to at least 100. Locate these numbers on a number line
(ACMNA013) Year 1
Count collections to 100 by partitioning numbers using place value (ACMNA014) Year 1
Year Level: Foundation and Year 1
Instructions:
2 Players (Varying abilities – extension game)
Students will learn to identify numbers, words, counting in order, making groups of ten and extending experiences in probability.
Players will determine who plays first by either rolling a die for the highest number or using alternative methods i.e. the taller of the two will start.
Each Student roles in turn (1) 6 sided die and places corresponding number of counters on their 10 frame (Player 1 or Player 2) starting from the top frame down.
After the first role, the second player resumes by rolling the 6 sided die and placing counters on their 10 frame.
Students will continue to place counters on their 10 frame, working down the board until all 6 frames are completed.
The game ends once a player reaches the end of the 6th 10 frame.
Extension:
The object of the game is to role exactly 10 frames.
Strategies can be to focus on individual frames in sequence or roll and work on multiple frames at once.
Each player must fill each 10 frame with the exact number of counters from each role. i.e. a 6 and a 4 role will fill (1) 10 frame. A 3,6 and 1 role will fill a 10 frame. If the role overfills a 10 frame, a new 10 frame is to be used instead. i.e a 6 and a 5 role could result in (1) 10 frame filled with 6 counters and the following 10 frame with 5.
If the player roles a number greater than the spaces available (once all frames have been started), the player loses their turn.
Game Items: Fast Track Math Speedway Board, 60 counters one colour, 60 counters another colour, (1) 6 sided die.
