Description

Review number sense, word problems, and addition and subtraction skills with these no-prep pages that can be used for morning work, math rotations, homework, guided math, or whole group lessons.

Use these in your distance learning packets! You can plan a balanced and rigorous virtual lesson around these tune-ups! Have your students complete the night before and go over them together, or share your screen and model how to solve the various word problem structures and algebraic equations!

This growing bundle includes all my Math Tune-Ups to date: January, February, March, April, May, August/Back-to-School, September, October, November, and December.

The following tune-ups have not been created yet, but will be added: Summer Review. As more packets are added, the price will increase. Grab the bundle now for extra savings!

Use these Math Tune-Ups to reinforce problem solving, number sense, and addition and subtraction skills. Each page features a story problem, an addition/subtraction strategy section, and a number sense review. These are Common Core aligned, but can be used with any first grade math standards. Check out my individual monthly math tune-ups for a closer look at what these packets include.

These are a part of my daily math rotation, but can also be used for homework, assessment, independent practice, or small group math. Sometimes we solve one together to discuss different strategies as we go.

My students last year lacked many foundational skills entering first grade. I lacked a math curriculum or support from the district regarding pacing and assessment. I created these to help keep my students on track for end of the year, Common Core-aligned expectations. I took into account word problem types, number sense, formative assessment methods, important strategies, and everything I knew I wanted my kids to be able to do. Working through these daily, in addition to multiple, hands-on lessons, helped accelerate my students' progress and gave me the information I needed to differentiate instruction. Even on a crazy day when we've had an assembly, fire drill, and birthday party I know my kids have had practice with important number sense skills because they did their math tune-up!

Pricing Information: These packets sell for $3.50 each. Bundled, you will save 20%!

Do you use guided math in your classroom? Click here for a set of math mats that can make math groups and independent practice easy to prepare while giving students a way to organize their thinking.

Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 - 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.
