Attached are 77 pages of editable 1st Grade Report Card Comments in Microsoft Word! Of those 77 pages (16 pages) are comments only dealing with Distance Learning/Covid-19 Environment. So this document has a mix of in person and distance learning report card comments perfect for a first grade classroom!

I always start and end a report card comment with a positive comment, squeezing the bad news in the middle. Like an OREO cookie! :) Many of my Report Card Comment examples are positive, professional, and informative. They are not a cut and paste for every child.

1. Start with a positive comment.

2. List each students’ Independent Reading Level (STAR) and what the grade level expectation is at this time.

3. Write specific comments for areas of strength and opportunity for reading, writing, math, and science.

4. Give families one or two home activities that they can do to help their child improve or continue growth.

Stumped by what to say and tired of writing the same things over and over again while writing report card comments? Then this bundle is for you! As every teacher knows, report card comments are a critical part to each student's evaluation and assessment—and know one knows your students better than you! The valuable information you provide can help a parent address any challenges their child may be struggling with in the classroom or via distance learning. Comments can be used to praise a child's accomplishments and hard work too!

These Report Card Sample Comments and Phrases address a wide range of students from dealing with English Language Learners, students you suggest be retained, your high, average, low and new students. You will notice I have first semester and second semester report card comments as well as trimester comment examples. I refer to iReady data, STAR and AR figures in many of my report card comment samples. You can update your comments to list whatever program you use at your school.

*****I highlighted in red where a child's name, specific score or pronouns should be listed/updated.*****
