Description

This packet of math subtraction word problems with a November (fall and Thanksgiving) theme can be used with 1st and 2nd grade students. The problems include different problem types and different number choices designed to easily differentiate instruction and student practice. Use the worksheets for guided math instruction and review, whole class math word problem strategy discussions, centers, early finishers, and homework.

The problem types include:

• separate: result unknown

• separate: change unknown

Seven word problems for each problem type are included with four different sets of numbers for each word problem. Students show their work, record a number sentence (can be optional), and record an answer in the box at the bottom of each page. An answer key is included.

Use the completed worksheets for math strategy discussions. Students can share their work and strategies with the class by showing and telling how they solve the problems.

The math problems can also be used for guided math groups. Adjust the lessons by using different problem types and numbers.
