Description

Book tastings are one of my favorite ways to help students explore new literature. After a book tasting, students check out a library book to read during bell work every day.

However, I also want to give students a chance to talk about their books so they can hear from their classmates and discover even more wonderful literature.

This book review activity was born from a desire to provide students with a framework for discussing their first impression of a book. After a book tasting and a day of silent reading, students complete their first impressions book review and share it with the class.

Then, students use the first impressions card as their book mark for the duration of the reading. At the end of the reading, they update their rating of the book, and we hang it on the wall as a way to track how many books we have read as a class.

Updated to include a fillable .pdf and Google Slides. Since this resource includes a Google tool, TPT will create a folder in your Google Drive where you will find all parts of this resource!

Included in the Back-to-School Stations Bundle! In one bundle, you will get 12 resources and 100+ pages to use individually or (like I do) as Back-to-School Stations! With these resources, teachers can mix and match to find the perfect set of activities for the first day of school! I have also included some organizational tools to help you get everything in order before the first day of school! Everything you need is here: just print or post, and you're ready for Day One!

To purchase these resources individually would be $23.42, but with the bundle, you save $4 and only spend $19.42, which is like getting two of the resources for free! That's 100+ pages to get you ready for the first day of school! Get everything you need for back-to-school stations and activities today!

In the past, I have used stations as my back-to-school activity for secondary English language arts. I enjoy using stations because they help get students up and moving, becoming comfortable with each other and with the space. However, during our year of pandemic teaching, traditional stations were n

This was a great way to have my students read one chapter of a book and then explain why they would continue reading a book or move on to a different book. I will continue using this in the future!
