Description
Sled Building STEM - Oh no! School is out for a snow day. The stores are closed, but the children want to sled. Help them by building a sled that will slide down the hill. Use your creative thinking because you can only choose from the available supplies and you must stick to the budget.
Your students will love learning about force and motion with this sled building challenge! This STEM covers several NGSS standards and promotes engineering thinking.
Suggested Plan of Implementation:
Prior Week: Send home the parent letter requesting supplies. Gather needed materials.
Day One – Introduce and discuss “The Problem” slide. Discuss the “Let’s Talk About It – Force and Motion” slide. Introduce the STEM Challenge.
Day Two – Introduce and discuss the budget options. Use the planning page to illustrate or write out the building idea.
Day Three – “Purchase” supplies for the build. Work on budget. Begin the building process.
Day Four – Work on and complete the structure.

We created sleds after learning about the forces of motion, Great Activity
MY STUDENTS LOVED THIS PROJECT!!!
Love this resource!!
I used it as an independent center activity. The students enjoyed creating their own sleds. It was a great way to integrate math as well.
This was an amazing resource, thank you! :)
Amazing product, thank you!!
We used this resource in conjunction with our science unit. The students actually created sleds and loved it
