Description

Winter STEM Engineering Challenges - The children need a sled! The snowman is melting and needs a shade! The groundhog needs a burrow! The Eskimo needs a shelter from the cold! Your students will turn on their creative minds to solve these winter problems while learning some facts, using math and engineering skills, and having fun along the way! These STEM activities will help you and your students beat the winter blues. Each of these STEM challenges meet several NGSS standards. They are perfect to use in a STEM lab, in science centers, as cooperative learning groups, or as individual projects.

This STEM bundle includes a complete download of 4 of my STEM challenges. Buying the bundle saves almost 40%!

The bundle includes:

Igloo STEM: Shelter Building Challenge

Snowman STEM

Groundhog Day STEM: Animals in Winter

Sled Building Challenge: Force and Motion

Suggested Plan of Implementation:

Prior Week: Send home the parent letter requesting supplies. Gather needed materials.

Day One – Introduce and discuss “The Problem” slide. Discuss the “Let’s Talk About It – Force and Motion” slide. Introduce the STEM Challenge.

Day Two – Introduce and discuss the budget options. Use the planning page to illustrate or write out the building idea.

Day Three – “Purchase” supplies for the build. Work on budget. Begin the building process.

Day Four – Work on and complete the structure.

Day Five – Test the build and complete the Self-Evaluation Page

This is certainly not the only way to use these materials. They are designed to be flexible and be used to best suit each classroom and teacher based on the ability of the learner, time constraints and teacher preference.

Please check out the preview to get a glimpse of everything that is included.

For each challenge, you will get:

"The Problem" slide to discuss with students

I love this resource! I sent out a sign up sheet and stock piled the materials since many activities asked for the same type of supplies. The students love doing them and the parents love the pictures I send them of the final projects.
