Description

This is a simple, low-budget, Newton's 2nd law lab. The objectives are to show the students that increasing force on an object increases its acceleration and that increasing the mass of an object decreases its acceleration. Each objective prompts students to make a prediction before doing the lab and the analysis questions ask them to reflect on their results. Detailed, step-by-step instructions, data tables, and grids for graph-making are included.

You will need a cart capable of holding masses; 4- 50g masses per group; string; stopwatches; and a scale. I use this with my freshman general science class.

These are all of my lab activities. Many include making and analyzing some kind of graph from the data and all include analysis questions to help guide students through thinking about the meaning of what they did as well as how it connects to the world outside the classroom. All of them require the
