The student detectives will conduct many hands-on science labs to determine who the suspect was that committed the crime on campus. During labs the students will analyze fiber and hair, fingerprints, handwriting, and blood. In the end, the crime will be solved and the suspect will be identified. To end the unit, the students will create DNA out of candy.

The materials that you will need to have or purchase for this unit are two microscopes or magnifying glasses, candy for DNA, wire, prepared slides of blood and a juice slide, box for cupcakes, soda can, scarf, thread (three colors), paint on plate, coffee cup, ink pads. Optional: I purchased the simulated blood lab activity by Wards Natural Science to supplement the blood analysis lab.
