Make mathematical fluency fun with these addition and subtraction math bump games. These three spring activities will keep your sweeties thinking critically and becoming fluent with addition and subtraction to 14, data collection, and counting to 120.
Add your favorite ocean or fish themed literature, and pick up a few supplies at your local craft or dollar store and you will be ready for some fun with fish this spring. This resource would also be great for your Dr. Seuss celebration. Seuss has his birthday on March 2nd.

Something Fishy Bump Games
There are two games of bump provided. The first version focuses on the addition and subtractions strategy of doubles plus one and doubles minus one. The second version focuses on doubles plus two and doubles minus two.
Fish Bowl Estimation
I go to my local dollar store and get small clear containers to serve as the fish bowls in this activity. I use this as a partner or small group lesson, but it can be whole group lesson led by the teacher too. Estimation is such an important mathematical skill. Repeated exposure to estimation activities leads to much stronger number sense. This estimation activity will compliment any ocean or fish unit that you are teaching. A recording sheet is provided for this activity.

Standards
to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
CCSS1.NBT.A.1
Count to 120, starting at any number less than 120. In this range, read and write numerals and represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
CCSS1.NBT.C.5
Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used.
CCSS1.OA.C.6
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
