"I used this to replace the geometry unit in the math books we were using. It was very comprehensive and contained lots of practice for students. Sometimes the sheets became a bit repetitive for them, but they needed that amount of practice to help retain the information. "

Description

Stop searching for your geometry lessons. Everything you need to teach, practice, and assess lines, congruency, symmetry, types of triangles, polygons, quadrilaterals, making nets, translations, reflections, rotations, ordered pairs, coordinates, and the Cartesian Plane is included in this print-and-use unit. Your planning for your shape and space unit is already done for you!

This unit is part of the Full Year Interactive Math Unit Bundle for Grade 5/6. It comes with a bonus sequencing guide to help plan your whole year.

This geometry resource includes:

  • instructions for how to set up, assess, and use interactive notebooks. It has a version that doesn’t require cutting and gluing if you’re worried about time.
  • complete lesson plans with all the concepts broken down. This is helpful if you need to leave lessons for substitute teachers, your math skills are a little rusty, or the government recently changed the curriculum and didn’t give you any time to learn how to teach it (shout out to Alberta teachers!)
  • student template pages. Our templates include versions that require printing, cutting, gluing, and writing as well as versions that just require printing and writing. Alternative versions are included so you can differentiate.
  • practice pages (worksheets) to help practice the concepts or to use for formative assessment.
  • proof questions that can be used for formative assessment or exit tickets.
  • games and activities to help reinforce concepts, to use for early finishers, or just for some math fun.
  • unit test pages. There are a variety of levels so it makes it easy for you to modify for your class. These pages are left plain and simple without grades or levels on them to help with student test anxiety.
  • alignment guides for Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. The list of lessons is aligned to each specific curriculum so it’s easy for teachers to know which lessons to teach and what to highlight in each lesson.
  • Canadian spellings.
  • SI Notation meaning numbers are written with a space between place value columns instead of a comma. Example 3 676 000 instead of 3,676,000.
  • metric measurements.

Ninja Note: This unit is part of a year-long bundle which means you can get your whole year planned!

The specific lessons include:

  • types of lines (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, perpendicular, parallel and intersecting)
  • congruency (shapes, side lengths, angles, edges)
  • line symmetry and plane symmetry of shapes, objects and patterns
  • rotational symmetry and order of rotation
  • polygons (triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, octagons)
  • types of triangles (equilateral, isosceles, scalene, acute, right, obtuse)
  • quadrilaterals (trapezoids, kites, parallelograms, rhombuses, rectangles, squares)
  • 3D objects (cones, cylinders, spheres, prisms and pyramids)
  • building nets of 3D objects
  • reading and plotting ordered pairs on the first quadrant of the Cartesian plane
  • single and multiple-event transformations: translations (slides), rotations (turns) and reflections (flips)
  • tessellations

I bought the whole bundle and love them! It is aligned with Alberta curriculum, and covers all the topics needed. I am using this to create a resource that my students can use all year, as a study guide or even as them move on to other grades! It has really helped with understanding and I love that there is a proof section and practice pages.
