Description

This resource is considered a mini-unit and includes PowerPoint Lessons, Guided Notes, Homework, and Quizzes. The mini-unit takes approximately 6-8 (traditional) class days to complete. I have used these lessons in both my Algebra 2 and PreCalculus classes.

The PowerPoints (accompanied with Guided Notes) were developed to help students understand (a) the key features of a graph, and (b) how to use key features to graph rational functions. An assessment (quiz) is given at the end of this mini-unit to assess student progress toward their goal of graphing a rational function without using a graphing calculator.

Because of the challenging nature of the topic, the lessons have been scaffolded and are interspersed with Examples problems (which we work as a class, i.e. Guided Practice) and Practice problems (which students work individually or with a partner, i.e. Independent Practice). This repeated cycle of GP and IP during class helps students maintain a high level of engagement, allows the teacher to circulate the room during IP, provides significant Checks for Understanding throughout the lesson, and helps students gain confidence and clear up misunderstandings before moving on to their homework.

Included in this zip file are the following:

1) PowerPoint Lessons complete with animations, showing solutions to every example and practice problem

2) Guided Notes to accompany each PowerPoint Lesson

3) Homework assignments complete with Answer Keys

4) Extra Practice worksheet complete with Answer Key (if students want/need extra practice)

5) Three Quiz versions (two to be given at the same time to reduce cheating, and a third for a retake as necessary) complete with Answer Keys

6) Quiz Answer Key PowerPoint – for students to grade their own quiz during class

Note: each document (aside from the PowerPoints) are in both Microsoft Word and pdf format.
