Word Smarts Greek and Latin Root Words {Set 2}

Teaching your students to understand how words are created through the study of prefixes, suffixes, and root words may help your students increase their vocabulary and increase reading comprehension while supporting the CCSS for 4th grade.

Using this resource, you will be able to introduce Greek and Latin roots using full color photographs, definitions, and example words. Students will work with prefixes, roots, and suffixes using the interactive notebook foldable flap books and hands-on activities.

This resource supports learners of all abilities and learning styles in making connections with 12 Greek and Latin roots through the use of •full color photographs
•example words
•Interactive notebook booklets
•foldable flap books
•two hands-on word work/station activities focusing on word meaning.


This resource includes the following materials:
•13 Slide PowerPoint Show (not editable)
Title slide and 12 root word slides. Each slide includes the root word, origin, meaning, photograph symbolizing root word meaning, and 7-10 example words.
•Each root word slide is also available as a full color poster and 1/4 size card.
• Interactive Notebook options:
prefix and suffix booklets contain the affixes used, but not previously introduced to students in SET ONE.
Root word foldable flap books each with 4 of the 12 root word in this set.
•Suggestions for Use
•3 Word Work activities focusing on word meanings - Word Soup, Word Snatch!, and Word Chains.
•Word Cards – 12 sheets each page contains the word examples from each Root Word slide for use with the word work activities.
