Description

Get kids coding with these unplugged coding programs with a Halloween theme! This block style coding resource is a great introduction to coding without computers. Students will learn critical thinking and problem solving skills!

A digital version of this resource is also included (in color only) and is compatible with Google Classroom. Due to copyright restrictions, the graphics in the digital version are different but do not affect the resource.

This resource includes:

• Teacher Instructions

• Sample Coding Maps & Codes

• Student Directions

• Coding Maps (THREE Levels of Difficulty)

• Playing Pieces

• Path Pieces

• Code Worksheet

Feel free to use flat, square manipulatives for the Path Pieces if you have them! The Path Pieces are included as an option for those that don't have that type of manipulative.

Halloween Coding Unplugged comes in color and black & white!!

TWO Programs:

• The witch is out of ingredients for her favorite potion! Get the witch to the cauldron and collect potion ingredients along the way.

• The scarecrow needs more stuffing! Get the hay to the scarecrow in the pumpkin patch without stepping on any pumpkins.

These coding unplugged programs are great STEM activities to be used individually, in pairs, or as a center!

It is very helpful to show the sample coding maps and corresponding codes that are included in this product and to code a program with students before allowing students to work independently. This resource is recommended for 1st through 4th grade.

My kids are going to love this! Didn't realise when I bought it that I would have to create the maps myself though. Did give me that freedom, but would be nice if there were some pre-made ones included :)

I use this in two ways: 1) students build their own map then figure out the code according to the story; 2) students work in pairs to build maps for each other and the other finds the code. If these aren't options for you, then you may like the Follow the Code resources better.
