Halloween Math Scavenger Hunt – Unit Rate Practice for 6th Grade

Follow Escape Room Scoots if you Teach Middle School Math. I offer massive discounts on newly released products for the first few days, so be sure to be following.

Your students will love this Halloween-themed math scavenger hunt! Designed for 6th grade and great for 5th or 7th grade math too! This engaging Halloween math activity gets kids moving, collaborating, and solving real-world unit price problems — all while surrounded by spooky fun! Most problems have students find the unit price and multiple by the desired quantity.

Hang up the task cards around your classroom or hallway and watch your students transform into math detectives, hunting for clues from Halloween characters and creepy objects. Each clue involves solving a unit rate and finding a matching item.

This version focuses on basic, easy-to-calculate numbers, so students can focus on the concept rather than getting lost in the arithmetic. You’ll even find some unit rates under $1, a great way to strengthen their understanding of trickier cases. I included a few different versions if you’d like more or less unit rates less than a dollar.

Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
Solve unit rate problems including those involving unit pricing and constant speed. For example, if it took 7 hours to mow 4 lawns, then at that rate, how many lawns could be mowed in 35 hours? At what rate were lawns being mowed?
