Description

These are some suggestions that might help a teacher new to PBL.

Since PBL is relatively new for many teachers, I have compiled a series of ideas and suggestions from past experience. I used these methods for my social science and science courses but can be adapted to any PBL class.

There are resources that are online that will explain the ins and outs of it, and the benefits/disadvantages.

However, the true merit of PBL is the fact that no matter what grade or what we think as teachers, the 21st century skills gained by conducting PBL and its benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Grading PBL is a little bit harder, and some students might find it unfair, but in the future, team-work, collaboration, and adaptability and flexibility will be the way to go in academics and in the workplace.

Enjoy yourself in the journey with our students. I have only gained deep satisfaction from seeing my students of all abilities, learn. Much laughter, wonder, and imagination have emerged from the times we have had PBL in the classroom. Mrs. Marilani
