Description
This resource is bundle of two resources: (1) Microsoft Word Student Handout of "Hypothesis Practice". This resource is designed to help students write a hypothesis in the correct "If" and "then" format. Students will read a brief description of an experiment and then will create an "If statement" that tells what things are being tested (the independent variable), and a "Then statement" that tells what they expect to learn from the experiment (the dependent variable). There are 10 experiments for students to read about and write a hypothesis for. (2) Power Point Presentation of "Hypothesis Practice". This resource has 21 Power Point Slides. Slides 1-10 are designed for Student Work for them to type the answers directly into the Power Point Slides. Slides 12-21 are the Answer Key for the Hypotheses for the 10 experiments.
Example Question: Brianna is growing vegetables in her family's garden. She wonders what the effect the amount of water will have on how big the vegetables will grow. She will test 500mL of water, 1000mL of water, and 1500mL of water in an experiment.
Example Answer: If I grow vegetables with different amounts of water, then I will see which amount of water grows the biggest vegetables.
Teacher Directions for Hypothesis Practice Word Document: Page 1 and 2 are the student worksheet and should be printed front to back. Page 3 has Teacher Directions. Page 3 and 4 have the Answer Key. Use View/Zoom to show as much or as little of the Answer Key when going over the questions.
Teacher Directions for Hypothesis Practice Power Point: You can save a new copy of the Power Point with a new file name and only include slides 1-10 and provide this version of the Power Point for students to fill out at their student computers. Use your file version of Slides 12-21 to display to the class so students can check their work and fix things they got incorrect.
