Description

Create lifelong readers by providing students the opportunity to read books of their choice. This independent reading system allows students to find books that are of high interest to them, while also helping them to push their reading by finding books that are at an appropriate reading level. Students earn points for each book they read based on the length and reading level of the book. This provides students with total control over their independent reading grade, and allows students to develop a vast array of active reading skills. Included is the overview to hand out to students, the prompts for active reading notes and the final book completion form students fill out each time they finish a book. In my class, we track the top point earners each quarter to add a competitive aspect.
