Measure Up Numeracy Assignment - Measurement and Basic Operations

Extend learning of measurement and basic operations with links to the real world. Aimed towards grades 3-5.

Enrich and extend your students' understanding of measurement and basic operations with this measurement project. Students link their learning to real-life by investigating the height, length, and width of furniture around the room, and then designing their own furniture. This activity is a great extension for early finishers, or the perfect assignment to implement at the end of a measurement unit.

This activity was created to be used as an inquiry-based assignment, which is student-led and teacher assisted. I encourage a student-centered learning environment, and this assignment is designed to be used in this environment. Students should lead investigations and become independent, critical thinkers with this project.
