How I Use These Products:
Self-Checking Mystery Riddle Activity:
I use this activity after students have explored the four operations of integers and are ready to work with all operations at the same time. There are 16 questions involving all four operations. Some problems have more than one operation or absolute values where students must use the Order of Operations to correctly solve the expression.
Each question immediately enables students to know if their answer is correct by turning green or red. Students simply need to type their answer into the answer box. If they are correct, the box will turn green and part of the picture will appear. If they are incorrect, the box will turn red and they need to try again. When they finish all 16 questions, they will have the answer to the riddle.
I have used this activity as both an in-class activity during stations or centers or as a homework assignment to check for understanding of a concept. Student always enjoy them.
This activity uses Google Slides . Please keep in mind that students will each need their own copy of the digital activity. There are several ways to do this depending on the technology at your school.
I also provided a student work page. This can be used if you decide to have students complete this as an outside of school assignment and a student does not have Internet access. Some of my students prefer to have the questions on paper as well, so I always provide both options. I encourage students to use this paper to show their work when answering the expressions.
Getting Started:
- Print 1 copy of the student work page per student. (You can also print the Color by Number problems on the other side to save paper.)
- Share the digital activity with students so that they each have their own copy and let the fun begin!
Color by Number Activity:
I have also used this activity as both a station activity or at home assignment to help review operations. My students always get excited for these.
This activity needs to be printed for students to complete. If you are looking to get your students away from a screen, but still have fun with an activity, this is perfect. There is no technology needed!
I also provided the answer key for worksheet as well as an example of what the finished picture will look like with color.
Getting Started:
- Print 1 copy of the Color by Number problem page and one coloring page per student. I typically use two separate pieces of paper so students do not need to flip. (You can also print the Mystery Riddle work page on the other side to save paper.)
- Distribute to students and let the fun begin!
Special Thanks to Lindsay Bowden for providing an awesome template for the mystery picture activity!
