Share

Description

Is your district doing Distance Learning? This can be easily implemented and sent out for students to do at home!

In this exciting project your students will take an adventure to Costa Rica to explore the world of integers. Students will learn critical integer vocabulary just as ascended, descended, elevation, debit, credit, sea level, and more.

Love this project? Check out the Ratio and Proportions Project!

Students will explore:

  • Absolute Value in real world context
  • Rational number on the coordinate plane
  • Integer Vocabulary in real world situations

This resource includes... Download the preview to see all resources!

  • Full Lesson Plan (helpful for announced observations)
  • Standards Based Assignment
  • PowerPoint (engaging videos + challenging questions)
  • Student Facing Materials
  • Performance Task
  • Exit Ticket + Student Reflection

I used this lesson plan for my announced observation and my students LOVED the activity. They explored the coordinate plane and how it ties together with positive and negative integers.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
Understand a rational number as a point on the number line. Extend number line diagrams and coordinate axes familiar from previous grades to represent points on the line and in the plane with negative number coordinates.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
