Integer Showdown!
Share

Description

Integers can be very confusing for the students so why not let them play a game to help them practice instead of giving them the usual worksheet? It's a partner game (or they can play individually for differentiation). Each pair/person will need a deck of cards and a di. (All can be purchased at the $ store!)

Students use the deck of cards and di to set up a number sentence.

No instruction on how to play or do integer showdown so very unclear and hard to implement it. Great start to an activity. I wish to know what is the objective of this activity.

It's a partner game (or they can play individually for differentiation). Each pair/person will need a deck of cards and a di. (All can be purchased at the $ store!) Students use the deck of cards and di to set up a number sentence. As the worksheet states, if a student draws a red card, the number that appears on the card is negative. If the students draw a black card, the number on the card is positive. They use the numbers on the card, then roll the di to determine if they will add or subtract the 2 numbers (cards) they drew. I always had my students draw one card, record it. Roll the di, record it. Draw the second card, record it. And then solve before moving onto the next question. Hope this helps!
