Description
This resource (30 cards in total) helps students to identify and compare integers found in real-life contexts and solve word problems that involve integers. World problems that deal with positive and negative numbers utilize vocabulary (ex. profit/ debt) that translates to the sign of the number. It is challenging for some students to conceptualize where positive (and especially) negative numbers fit into real life contexts. The sorting cards assist students in assessing whether specific words in integer word problems are asking for addition or subtraction, or in what direction they should move when looking at a number line. It is a great introduction for a math unit involving Integers, and can be utilized for individual, group, or whole class instruction.
