Lesson Plan – Intro to Graph Theory

Time: 30-35 minutes

Grade Level: Secondary

Objective: The student will learn to recognize and use the basic terminology for graph theory.

Vocabulary: graph, edge, vertex, order, size, loop, degree, walk, path, cycle, component

1. Bell Ringer (5 minutes) - Draw each picture without lifting your marker or overlapping lines.

2. Guided Doodle Notes (15 minutes) – Basic Terminology and Examples

3. Group/Independent Work (10-15 minutes) – 10 question homework assignment

This is a lesson that could be used in grades 6-12 as an introduction to graph theory. No prior knowledge is necessary.
