Description

With this Inverse Functions Task Card activity your students use their reasoning skills along with their algebraic skills to find inverses of algebraic functions. The cards are designed to reinforce concepts taught in class and build fluency with this often difficult topic.

Use this activity for group work, sorting, matching, or just finding the inverse functions. There is no mention of domains or ranges in this activity, nor graphs.

Functions include:

  • linear
  • quadratic
  • square root
  • cube root
  • rational functions.

What's Included in this resource?

  • 12 cards with functions and 15 cards for the matching inverse functions.
  • Blank cards for you to customize the product.
  • Student response sheet
  • Additional Student response sheet designed to be used without the cards as a matching activity

All functions have inverses, however some may have limited domains. There are no exponential, logarithmic, or trigonometric functions. Depending upon your curriculum sequence, you can add these with the blank cards included. Note: These print great in color or B/W.

This resource can be used for PreCalculus and AP® PreCalculus Unit 2, Topic 2.8.

My students were engaged and challenged by this resource. I like that it is self-checking, and also that there are a few open-ended as well. I always love matching activities! This was great!

I have used this with both levels of my algebra 2 classes (honors & lower). The students like the activity, it has the matching answers so they know if they have done it correctly if there is an answer or not. There are a few more challenging questions and answers in a slightly different format. Overall everyone enjoyed the activity.
