Description

We all know that word problems are hard! Now, more than ever, it is important for students to have a way to tackle those pesky word problems.
This free printable is a fantastic resource that sums up how to tackle word problems for your students. Print out the keywords for solving math problems and the steps to solve word problems back-to-back for your students at the beginning of the year (or whenever)! You also get a mini-poster that gives a quick example of each word-problem strategy that you could print for each student or hang on your classroom wall.
Included is a thorough list of keywords that will clue students as to which math operation they should be doing when solving word problems. There is also space for students to add words as they find them! There is also a simple 4-step process to solving any math word problem with an included example that outlines exactly what students should be doing. Finally, the different strategies (such as look for patterns or create a graph) are included on the steps sheet and as a separate mini-poster.
Please use and share as much as you like!!! Enjoy!

Great resource for students to reference when working through word problems. I like the easy no prep and that they can look back at it throughout the school year.

I used this for a lesson across 3rd-8th grade for my resource students. My students love having this as an anchor chart in our classroom to refer to when working on word problems. It also gave great math conversations about some of the same or similar words in more than one category. This helped my students realize they may need to look for more key words to determine the operation needed in a given word problem.

I have other versions of this type of chart, but for my money, this one is the best for upper elementary and middle school. Oh, wait! This must-have resource was FREE!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have had several students who read this as carefully as one might watch an elephant toothpaste explosion!

My students asked for a key words sheet for math. I searched and searched for something that they could easily understand and apply to the math word problems. They are appreciative of this. Thank you
