This product was born out of a desire to be more transparent and detailed about my expectations for students in the classroom. I was inspired by Ron Clark's Essential 55, but I can barely remember a shopping list, so remembering 55 things was NOT going to happen. I brainstormed my expectations for students and narrowed it down to ten of them. I use these non-negotiables in my classroom and refer to them daily with my students. These are the staple of my classroom management. I hope they wil

Each year, we have students bring in a pie for the class to sample. We usually do this the day before students leave on Thanksgiving break. Students spend the day being pie taste testers and completing math activities about their tasting. Students taste various pies and record how much they like it based on a likert scale (1-10). Afterwards, students decide on which was their least and most favorite pie that they sampled. While students are tasting or before, I just write the name of each

Teaching style

I love an organized classroom, so I go to great lengths to ensure that my students love an organized classroom, as well. I am very open and honest with my students, and share many stories (even embarrassing ones) with my kids. I have slight obsessions with: graphic organizers, small groups, learning games, online games, Promethean Planet anything, PowerPoints with insane pictures and cool videos, and Interactive Notebooks. I'm all about making learning fun and exciting. But when we need to get down to work, we just do it with style.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Teacher of the Year, 2012-2013

My own education history

I took the long path in college. I began at one university and finished at another. I have my Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Old Dominion University in Virginia. I also obtained my PreK-6 Elementary Education Licensure from ODU. In December 2013, I earned my Master's Degree of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Massachusetts Lowell.
