Description

This formative assessment is 2 pages composed of fill in questions related to line plots. A line plot is a way to display data using a number line where each data point is represented by an "X" above the corresponding value. This activity requires the organization of data, sorting, and to analyze the information. The 1st page incorporates a data sample of the weight of various apples. Students are expected to sort and analyze the information. The 2nd page requires students to measure their fingers along with 9 of their peers to the nearest 1/4 inch. The data that is collected is sorted into a line plot. This is aligned with 5th grade iReady and Go Math content.

Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.
