Description
Looking for an engaging way to get your PreCalculus or Trigonometry students solving linear and angular velocity word problems? This activity includes 40 task cards designed to help your students master calculating linear and angular speed in real-world contexts. Knowledge of dimensional analysis is required to complete many of these problems (for a free list of conversion factors click here).
Problem Types Include:
Find Angular Speed
- given the number of revolutions completed in a certain time (e.g. rpm) (17 questions)
- given the radius and linear speed (4 questions)
- given the diameter and linear speed (1 question)
- given two circles connected by a belt, the radii of both circles, and revolutions completed in a certain time by one of the circles (1 question)
Find Linear Speed
- given radius and angular speed (4 questions)
- given radius and revolutions completed in a certain time (11 questions)
- given diameter and revolutions completed in a certain time (9 questions)
- given diameter and degrees turned in a certain time (1 question)
- given circumference and revolutions completed in a certain time (2 questions)
- given area and revolutions completed in a certain time (2 questions)
- given two circles connected by a belt, the radius or diameter of both of the circles, and revolutions completed in a certain time by one of the circles (2 questions)
Find Revolutions per Minute (RPM)
- given diameter and linear speed (2 questions)
- given two circles connected by a belt, the diameters of both circles, and revolutions completed in a certain time by one of the circles (1 question)
Find the Radius
- given revolutions per minute and linear speed (1 question)
This activity will give your students the practice they need to master this content. Furthermore, problems range in difficulty level so you can meet the needs of all your students!
This resource has 40 task cards (4 per page), a 4-page student recording sheet, and a worked-out answer key! Click on the preview to see every single question in this resource!
