Description

This is the third lab of a series of ten labs on the Linux Operating System.

The labs are part of our Intro to Cyber Security curriculum but they can also be taught as part of an Intro to Tech track. The track is introductory.

All kinds of schools can benefit including charter schools, public schools, vocational schools, college prep schools etc. The labs are mainly thought at the high school level but they can also be taught at elementary school level.

The labs go hand in hand with the more theoretical Intro to OS Module and the Hardware Module. Please also lookup the Exercises that come with this unit.

This is Unit 3, on processes management in Linux. The commands ps, top, bg, fg, sleep, kill and killall are explained in details.


The labs are structured as follows:

Unit 1. File commands
Unit 2. Other file commands
Unit 3. Processes management
Unit 4. File permissions
Unit 5. System info
Unit 6. Software compression and installation
Unit 7. Text editors

Unit 8. Searching, I/O and redirection

Unit 9. Network services

Unit 10. Shell scripting

Students exercise online, using the JS Linux emulator which allows students to run Linux in a web browser without a prior OS installation.
