Description

Students will learn how to create an Excel Spreadsheet using step-by-step directions. Each student will receive a bag of M&M’s. They will use the bag of M&M’s to conduct a research on how many M&M’s are in a bag and what colors are in a bag. Students will then create formulas for MEAN, MEDIAM, MODE, and PERCENTAGE. After they have recorded their information from their bag they will compare and record information from other students. Then they will compare their findings by creating a graph to show the comparison and the amount of each color in a bag of M&M’s.

I used this in my mostly 9th grade Computer Applications class. The students really enjoyed it, plus they got to eat the M & M's when they were finished. It was a fun class period. Thanks so much!

Good lesson. I used this as the basis for my Marzano DQ4.21 (added some to the plan to meet this) and DQ3.17. Really creative and just what I needed!

This a great lesson and my students loved it! I would have loved to have a completed example spreadsheet included with the lesson.
