Students will learn how to create an Excel Spreadsheet using step-by-step directions. Each student will receive a bag of M&M’s. They will use the bag of M&M’s to conduct a research on how many M&M’s are in a bag and what colors are in a bag. Students will then create formulas for MEAN, MEDIAM, MODE, and PERCENTAGE. This assignment teaches students about nutrition and calorie counting. This is a five-part assignment using the Internet, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word. Have students to write down what they would order from their favorite restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then students will create an Excel chart and list what they ate. Next students would research the calories for each item. Answer questions from a handout and then write summary of their findings. Includes: lesson plan, rubric

EXAMPLE: Your manager asks you to help with a project: a comparative income statement. She wants a comparison of the income and expenses from January through June. In addition, she wants you to determine the net income for the six-month period.

This assignment is to help students’ realize how much real life cost and how to manage money. Using Excel to create a family budget and to graph their expenses. Students are to research using the Internet to find a home within their budget. They also can research how much expenses cost, like a car, insurance, daycare, and eating out for a family of four.

A WORD document students can create themselves by following step by step directions. They can create a birthday chart of their family & friends birthdays. This lesson involves working with creating lines, columns, page borders, font changes, and text wrapping. An example of the chart is included. Students will need to gather birth dates before this assignment.
