Have fun learning about making inferences and camping vocabulary with this fun, picture matching vocabulary match! This interactive center challenges students to read clues, make an inference about the described camping vocabulary, record it on their answer sheet, and match labeled vocabulary photos to "What am I" clues. The vocabulary pictures are great for supporting ELLs and visual learners! Includes an Easel activity format where students drag and drop the correct answer on their device.

These 10 Making Inferences {Camping Themed} task cards make a wonderful Reading center! These activity cards integrate the reading skill of making inferences, as students are asked to read closely and look for clues to determine the answer.

Set-Up Directions:

Print the task cards and cut in quarters to separate the four cards on each page. (I like to print them on colored paper and laminate to use over and over.) Post the task cards around the classroom (My students love when I build the excitement by hiding a couple cards under tables and behind doors). Alternatively, you may place all of the cards at a reading center.

Pass out the student response sheets. Ask students to read the words in the word bank to determine what the words have in common. Direct them to check their answer at the bottom left of the sheet. (Answer: They all have to do with camping!)

Student Task: 2 Ways to Play

*(Option 1)

Independently or in pairs, students locate task cards with their copy of the student response sheet (you can do this Scoot style, with each card at a desk, or scavenger hunt style with the cards taped around the room). Students read the clues carefully to determine which word bank word is being described. The cards can be read in any order. Students simply record their answers on the line that matches the number on the bottom left of each task card.

*(Option 2)

Provide students with the task cards and color photographs displaying the labeled images of the vocabulary terms. Students match the picture cards and task card descriptions. Finally, students record their answers on the response sheet.
