Description
In this lesson, students will begin by creating a pictograph as a whole group, with help from their teacher. They will use the data the teacher provides and the students will physically get to design a key with their own symbol to use to create the rows in their pictograph. The smart notebook file (15 slides total) consists of an interactive pictograph. The teacher can just open it, edit the names if they'd like, and call students to the board to drag the symbol in the rows in the graph. This hands on and fun interactive way to introduce graphing will excite the students and draw them into the next portion of the lesson: small group work. I've provided 3 sets of data for students to make 3 different pictographs for the small group work to access all learners. There is a graph for your struggling students where they create 3 rows based on the data, an average level graph for your middle of the road students and a harder graph for your challenging students.
