- Students create their own menu with items & prices
- Students work with a partner to share their menus and answer questions
- All activities have supportive questions to have practice work with decimals. Most questions require adding and subtracting of decimals with a couple questions comparing numbers with decimals.
Differentiated
- Three levels of support
- All activities for all levels mirror each other but decrease difficulty for students who need the extra support
- Level 1: Students create prices that cannot contain a 0 in the cents values
- Level 2: Students create prices that have a 0 in the one cent value (i.e. 2.90)
- Level 3: Students create who dollar amounts, but still show .00 in the cents to get an understanding of decimal places. This level also provides visual cues to set up equations
Students Personally Connect & Get Creative!
- Real-World Connection to the activity to make it more purposeful & meaningful
- With the activity to choose their own food items, students can make a further personal connection
- As a step further, students can even create a physical copy of their menu beyond the piece of paper
