Description
This Google File includes two versions labeled Math 1 and Math 2 of a daily one question bell ringer/warm up question. Each slide is editable if you wish to change names, topics, or numbers in problems. Notes to teachers and all answers are typed into the notes section under each slide. Be sure to delete them if you plan to send these slides directly to your students. I personally project the slide onto the board before class starts for the students to complete when they arrive and then we review it whole group, but you are free to use it in whatever way works best for you and your students.
Students need to know about negative numbers, exponents, and order of operations and distributive property this month for Math 1.
Math 1:
Mystery Monday- Algebra inspired work to find the missing number for different pictures shown in equations and each slide ends adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing the two pictures together.
True or False Tuesday- Different math related true or false statements that the students have to read and explain why they believe the statement to be true or false.
Word Problem Wednesday- Students create their own word problems to then share to the class as the “teacher” and call on a student to solve their problem. I start with one step problems and then as the year progresses I challenge the students to write two step and even multiple step problems. You can also challenge your students to use a specific operation each week.
Think About it Thursday- Logic puzzles that require the students to read the clues and use them to determine which objects/items go together. (I suggest printing this slide for kids to solve on paper.)
Famous Friday- Students are challenged to solve a word problem that increase in difficulty as the year progresses. I started out using famous characters or people and then move into using my own students and their interests.
Math 2: (This is the easier or lower level option.)
Make it Monday- Students create their own problems to then share to the class as the “teacher” and call on a student to solve their problem. I suggest starting the year with simple equations or number sentences and then progressing to challenge the students to create their own word problems starting with one step and moving to two or more step problems.
True False Tuesday- Same as Math 1 but simpler topics or small numbers are used. Different math related true or false statements that the students have to read and explain why they believe the statement to be true or false.
Wacky Wednesday- A review/mixed bag day to practice different math skills including addition, subtraction, time, money, multiplication, division, graphing, base ten, etc.
Think About it Thursday- The same as Math 1. Logic puzzles that require the students to read the clues and use them to determine which objects/items go together. (I suggest printing this slide for kids to solve on paper.)
Famous Friday- Similar to Math 1 but with smaller numbers or simpler topics. Students are challenged to solve word problems that increase in difficulty as the year progresses. I started out using famous characters or people and then move into using my own students and their interests.
