About this book:
This book contains four addition and subtraction math word problem activities. Each activity includes: an activity card with printable manipulatives, 32 worded addition and subtraction problem cards and a recording page. These word problems are intended for use with children in Kindergarten (Prep), First and Second Grade.
Addition and subtraction problems included:
Joining word problems: Result Unknown (cards 1-4), Change Unknown (cards 9-12) and Start Unknown (Cards 25-28)
Separating word problems: Result Unknown (cards 5-8), Change Unknown (cards 13-16) and Start Unknown (Cards 29-32)
Comparing word problems: Difference Unknown (cards 17-20) and Quantity Unknown (cards 21-24)
Themes included:
Pot of gold and gold coins
Irish hat and clovers
Bakery with green sweets
Bracelet and St. Patrick’s Day charms
Directions for use:
To prepare each activity for use, print the activity card, manipulatives and word math problem cards onto thicker paper and laminate for durability. Cut along the dashed lines. Print the matching recording page and store together with activity card, manipulatives and math cards.
Children begin by reading the problem on a given card. Next, they use the activity card and manipulatives to work out the math problem. Then, they complete the recording page to show their working out. Children can complete each section or particular sections that are requested by the teacher.
Optional: provide children with counting cubes to help with problem solving and to see the number representation in a more concrete manner as they complete the worksheet.
