Description

“Differentiated Science Literacy Reading Passages – The Planet Mars” will allow each student in your class to enjoy the same high-quality science content at their own differentiated reading skill level. This resource contains an illustrated reading passage on the planet Mars which has been differentiated for grades 3 – 7.

This resource integrates a science topic with Common Core reading standards and differentiates the passages by grade level. It will allow you to save time, teach across your curriculum, and address science literacy by combining science with ELA using this resource. This passage also addresses NGSS Standard MS-ESS1-B.

You have much flexibility in using these passages. Each grade passage has three possible applications, on grade, below grade, and above grade.

An “On Grade” passage can also be used for a “Below Grade” reader in a higher grade, or for an “Above Grade” reader in a lower grade.

Passages are coded so that only you will know what level you are handing to each student. The information and questions are the same for everyone.

Considerable effort has gone into analyzing and modifying these passages to integrate science literacy with your reading instructions. Even though some passages may look similar, there are differences in sentence length and vocabulary that make the difference.

Now you can introduce your students to new science topics at a reading level that matches their own skill level.

By combining science with differentiated non-fiction reading, you can easily differentiate your instruction as needed.

This approach gives each student in your class a chance to experience and understand the information and possibly develop a curiosity or passion for the subject material. No one is denied that chance based solely on their reading ability.

Note: If you have previously purchased our science literacy reading “Mission to Mars – Science Literacy Readings”, this product contains the same information as the first reading passage in that resource. The difference is that this product is differentiated for additional elementary grade levels and has three differentiations for each grade.

In addition to normal reading instruction and practice, you can use these readings:

With a unit on space or astronomy

With a unit on Mars

As additional work for early finishers

As homework

As a sub plan
