Description

The chart in the guided notes gives the students a "cheesy way" to remember the rules for multiplying integers. The zip folder contains both a Microsoft Word document as well as a PDF file. The word document is included so that you can adapt the chart to be for multiplying and dividing integers since they follow the same rules. The notes include some partner practice problems and boxes for students to record their answers for the scoot activity.

The scoot activity is a great way for students to practice multiplication of integers without just doing a worksheet. It gives them a chance to get up and move around as they do some problems. This activity includes 36 practice problems.

Understand that multiplication is extended from fractions to rational numbers by requiring that operations continue to satisfy the properties of operations, particularly the distributive property, leading to products such as (–1)(–1) = 1 and the rules for multiplying signed numbers. Interpret products of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
