Description

Please Read! This game has the exact same equations as Math Path - Make a 10 within 30 SEQUENTIAL, but the equations are in RANDOM order. This random order game is perfect for students who are ready for a challenge and the sequential order game is perfect for students who are learning the strategy of make a ten. Both of these games will be added to the level 2 bundle.

Computational fluency is essential for a strong math foundation as this allows students to quickly build upon their skills and focus on problem solving rather than recalling facts from memory. Many students struggle to memorize facts and research has shown that memorization is not the best strategy for building fact fluency. Providing students with strategies that support a strong number sense helps build fluency and flexibility with numbers. If students are given tools to support them when a sum is unknown, they develop a greater understanding of numbers.

Research has also found that using flash cards to build fluency is counterproductive as it focuses on memorization without understanding and adds a time restraint. Using games that are engaging and provide supports for understanding allow students multiple opportunities to build their computational fluency while having fun.

This self-checking digital fact fluency strategy game in Google Slides focuses on:

  • teaching the strategy of make a 10 within 30 (decomposing the second number when adding to 15, 16, 17, 18, or 19 to make another 10 and then some more)
  • providing fun and engaging practice with 30 equations
  • supporting students with visual tools to help their fact fluency development

THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:

  • Published self-checking digital game with 30 equations

KEY FEATURES:

  • Self-checking - students know right away if they get the answer correct.
  • Self paced - students can work at their own pace and at their own level.
  • Supportive - students are shown visual tools to support their understanding before trying a problem again. (Teaching Resources and Games EXCLUSIVE)
  • Interactive - students must select the correct answer to advance to the next slide.
  • Engaging - students collect ribbons and work to complete the math path.

Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = ▯ - 3, 6 + 6 = ▯.
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
