We've used this resource in our classroom as daily work and the students' math problem solving skills always grow by leaps and bounds! On Monday the students are introduced to a weekly math word problem and then they go through a different part of the problem solving process each day.

Day 1: Analyze and Solve: Using the CUBES strategy, students take a deep look into the problem and identify key information needed to solve the problem. They then use this information to actually solve the problem.

• Day 2: Partner up: Students compare with another student how they solved the problem and analyze whether they used the same or different strategies to solve.

• Day 3: Explain: On this day, students communicate in words how they solved the problem step by step.

• Day 4: Create: Using the original problem as a framework, students create their own problem.

• Day 5: Switch and Solve: By exchanging problems with each other, students get an additional opportunity to practice the skill of the week.

This 44 page math problem solving product includes teacher notes with details of how we use this in our classrooms, 8 weeks of math word problems for the following topics: place value, rounding, addition with regrouping, and subtraction with regrouping, and answer keys!

I came across an exceptional Teachers Pay Teachers resource for supplementing 2nd-grade math instruction with word problems and CUBES strategy. The resource provides valuable materials that have greatly improved my students' problem-solving skills and confidence. I highly recommend this resource to fellow educators looking to enhance their 2nd-grade math curriculum with engaging word problems and effective strategies like CUBES.

My students and I loved using this resource as a weekly bell ringer. They were engaged and were able to work independently with little to no help. This resource allowed me to work smarter and not harder.
