Description

Math talk sentence starters are organized in this colorful Math Talk Doodle Wheel to introduce or review different math conversation starters.

What is a math doodle wheel? It's a type of graphic organizer where students can:

  • Take notes inside the math wheel
  • Use color, drawing, and doodling to help create memory triggers, and
  • Color the background pattern

Students can keep these graphic organizers in their interactive notebooks all year as a reference.

The Math Talk Wheel sections include:

1) I agree because…

2) I disagree because…

3) I solved by…

4) To solve, I need to know...

5) Answer is correct because…

6) I chose this strategy because…

Features of this easy-to-use resource:

  • Notes sections (notes are just suggestions, and you can alter them or use other examples that fit better your instruction if you’d like)
  • In the pattern around the wheel are 8 standards for mathematical practice (paraphrased), as reminders for students. These can be colored/decorated.
  • Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows
  • Includes a version with all the notes filled in, in case some students need this.
  • Includes a version that has “Math Talk” in the center, with all the sections blank, in case you have different conversation starters and you want students to write them in.
  • PPT file that's a blank wheel with background, so you can add text to make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use)
